For many years I have been following trends in social media from the sidelines. Occasionally I would introduce bits and piece to friends and colleagues when I thought the critical mass and value was appropriate for their busy lives. This week I believe I witnessed something both novel and innovative. What made it more interesting from my perspective and worth the time to post a brief chronical was that it happened in my own backyard.
Thanks to the twitter revolution I was able to track @mediahunter and @TheMarketerAus (from sticky ads) via there #wearelistining hash. They walked a Companion Credit Union team who included @alnicash @Dutto @___adam___ @gailwoods @RazorCEO and @gunnyboy through an introduction to the world of social media. For those interested I have zip a copy of the entire twitscript here.
The essence of what makes this innovative hits me at a few levels.
- The audience consisting of a tradtional corporate team in a training room, a known virtual colleague @TheMarketerAus sitting in the sticky ads office (or perhaps the local watering hole) and the internet twitterati listening in like me @markfr from places globally.
- The content that contextualised social media in terms fo the tradtional audience yet still interesting enough to have yours truly and a few other twitterati listening.
- The tools, notably twitter which brought the vitrual audience into the training session while simulatenously introducing 6 corporates of the financial industry into a world of possibilities beyond traditional communications.
From my perspective here is a big shout out to sticky ads for being bold. An even bigger shout out goes to Companion Credit Union to taking a big leap and having the foresight to see what new social media can offer. Maybe my old steel town still has a little life left after all.
