Finally after several month of PAIN and a few hours tonight of trial and error I have removed the bain of my dual screen life. That incidious problem where my Vista video display settings reset for what at times appeared to be no apparent reason. (oh how wrong I was!) After trying the common resolutions found using google search, including:-
- disabling TMM (Microsoft Transient Multi-Monitor Manager),
- removing the HKLM\Software\Microsoft\TMM UseIViewHelper Registr setting,
- trying to set the display settings via the Windows Mobility Centre,
- trying to set the dsiplay settings via the Intel Graphics controls.
I was about to give up all hope when I walk through the scenario one last time and realised the reset was happening everytime UAC (User Access Control) kicked in. ie. Installing new software, opening up control panel services etc. So I did the rightful thing and turned UAC off. To my utter surprise and thrill the problem was gone. Now I haven't checked which exact combination of the above fixes the problem but I suspect it is UAC and TMM disabled. If anyone has the inclination to test please let the world know.
For now I am at peace with my vista and bed is calling. Good night!
